Event Details

"Color Me Included" is the result of the three-year historical and spiritual search of Minister Deborah Knowlton, as she transcribed clergy records from the Archives of the First Congregational Church of Hampton, New Hampshire. In these handwritten, primary sources, she discovered the lives of African Americans, written over 156 years by twelve ministers. The records informed the author's research, as she uncovered the names and partial histories of nearly 100 African American men, women, and children of Hampton, Hampton Falls, Kingston, North Hampton, Seabrook, Kensington, Kingston, East Kingston, Sandown, and Danville, New Hampshire.

Deborah Knowlton was born in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, and she grew up on the farm which is now the site of Heronfield Academy. She obtained her Master of Divinity at Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, MA. Since then, Deborah has served as pastor in a variety of churches in West Haven and Oxford, CT as well as in Franklin, Manchester, Dover and Hampton, NH. She has two children, Daniel and Sarah. In addition to her writing, she enjoys cross-country skiing, reading, hiking, and vegetable gardening. Color Me Included is her first book.
